About this course
Agricultural IoT focuses on measuring conditions such as soil moisture, temperature, humidity and water level and acting on them: starting pumps, raising alerts or logging data for later decisions. The environment is demanding: sunlight, moisture, dust, limited power and patchy connectivity.
The course teaches sensing and control techniques suited to those conditions, including calibration of soil sensors, power budgeting for solar nodes and communication choices for remote locations. Projects emphasise reliability and clear, honest interpretation of sensor data.
Who is this course for?
- Engineering and agriculture-technology students
- Project students working on sustainability and rural-technology themes
- Entrepreneurs prototyping agri-monitoring ideas
- Learners who completed ESP32 basics
Eligibility
For learners with basic microcontroller knowledge. Exact eligibility is confirmed at enrollment.
Prerequisites recommended
Basic ESP32 or Arduino skills and simple sensor-reading experience.

These are example exercises and project concepts for this course, not a record of projects completed by past learners.
Outcomes, career directions and limits
Skills you should be able to demonstrate
- Select and calibrate soil and climate sensors for a given crop scenario
- Build threshold-based irrigation control with safe overrides
- Estimate power use and design a duty-cycled node
- Explain the limits of low-cost sensor accuracy
Relevant career directions
- Agri-tech prototyping and field-trial support after further practice
- Rural-technology project roles
- Foundation for sustainability-focused IoT projects
What this course does not do
- Agronomic decisions depend on crop, soil and local expertise; this course teaches measurement and control, not agronomy.
- Prototype sensors are not a substitute for professional-grade agricultural instruments.
Career outcomes depend on your skills, portfolio, experience and employer requirements. No course can guarantee a job.

Check Your Special Course FeeSmart Agriculture and IoT Automation: frequently asked questions
Is farm experience required?
No. The course explains the measurements and decisions that matter, and projects can be simulated on a small scale.
Will I use LoRaWAN?
LoRaWAN is explained conceptually as an option for remote areas. Hands-on work centres on ESP32 and Wi-Fi unless the training team confirms LoRa hardware availability.
Can this be my final-year project?
Yes. Smart-agriculture themes are common; the Final-Year Project Training course helps with scoping, documentation and demonstration.
